I’m back from Bonnaroo! What a weekend! Ok, I got back Sunday night, but I’ve been catching up on sleep, working, driving back in forth between Athens and Atlanta until now!
How to not starve at a 4 day music festival: I brought bananas, grapes, mixed nuts, Kind bars (on sale for $1 at Earthfare!!!), and the healthy cookies I baked as nourishment for the weekend. I forgot to bring my zucchini bread, but that’s ok b/c I left it in my freezer and I am really enjoying it now. I especially like to eat it with a little almond butter, mmm…..
The food that they sold at Bonnaroo ended up being surprisingly good, but expensive! They had lots of organic and vegetarian options, but $8 for a pita??? Ouch. I ended up caving one night after I had eaten all the snacks I brought for the day, and I bought a chicken masala naan-wich!! No picture b/c I didn’t have my camera that day, but it was grilled naan bread with chicken cooked in masala sauce (a tomato based sauce with curry and coconut milk) drizzled with mango sauce and topped with fresh cilantro!! I’m going to try to recreate that meal soon.
There was also a Whole Foods stand!!!

My roommate posing with her popsicle
We bought Caribbean popsicles (mango, strawberry, and coconut) the last day for $1! Yay for fresh cheap food!!
I spent the night at my parents house in Atlanta on Sunday when I got back, and they had gotten a new dog while I was gone!!!!

Me and Mayer
He is 3 or 4 years old (he is a rescue dog, so we don’t really know his birthday), and he is a lab and cocker spaniel mix. My sister named him Mayer, as in John. My sister is a big fan of John Mayer and his music (but I think out Mayer is cuter!). I am actually not much of an animal person, but this dog is great! Mayer is probably the sweetest dog ever, and he loves hugs!! I’ve never met a dog so calm that you can just sit down and cuddle him! He is like a living stuffed animal
I drove back to Athens on Monday to work, and then back to Atlanta on Tuesday to go to lunch for my mom’s birthday! We ended up going to a popular restaurant across the street from our neighborhood. I got the grilled vegetable salad with ginger soy dressing and I added salmon.

This was a GIGANTIC salad! You can’t tell much from the picture, but the bowl was really deep… I swear they probably used an entire bag of lettuce! It also had grilled zucchini, asparagus, portabella mushrooms, roasted red peppers, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and avocado. That’s what I call a salad!
My mom got some crab cake sliders.

My mom is my biggest blog fan and has gotten used to me snapping photos of everything before I eat. After I took a picture of my lunch and starting eating, she pointed out that she was waiting to eat her lunch in case I wanted a picture of her meal, too! I think her lunch is blog worthy
.
I consider my mom to be a crab cake connoisseur since they are one of her favorite things to eat, and she has tried lots of different ones. She said that these crab cakes were pretty good, but that they were way better when she borrowed some avocado from my salad! So to any one out there who is a crab cake lover: try them with avocado!
I feel like most people have that one thing that they can’t help but order them whenever its on a menu….mine is salmon, my mom’s is crab cake. Is there any item that you will always choose on a menu regardless of the other options?

Dessert wise I will ALWAYS get creme brulee if its on the menu. No contest.
Sounds like you had a great time at Bonnaroo! It’s always good to be prepared with snacks and things, and it looks like you were pretty well prepared.
My mom always asks if I want to take photos of her food, too! Funny how our parents get into this blogging thing, right?!
The new puppy is so cute!
soo glad you had a nice weekend!!! i would totally bring along eats as well
the wholefoods stand is awesome!!!! love the pup <3!!
I eat anything with pumpkin. Even if it’s something I don’t normally order (lasagna, cheesecake, or whatever) I will usually be swayed if it has the word “pumpkin” in it.
Mayer is cute!!! And I think your mom is adorable for wanting you to take a picture of her food.
WFs STAND!! Nice! Of course I immediately saw the hummus sampler sign
Awww the pupper! That’s great your family rescued him! He’s adorable!
Those crab cakes look divine!
Welcome back!
Loved the $1 pops
Glad you had fun at Bonnaroo! Those crab cake sliders look great. How the heck did you get your moth around them??? As for an item that I can’t say no to, GREEK SALADS!! Especially when they have: Chicken, kalamata olives, and artichoke hearts. Yum
welcome back! That masala naan-which sounds amazing! I have to say that if it’s a nice place I always like to get salmon too. I usually order Italian pasta type stuff too. Occassionally, I break out of the box and try something different, but sometimes I’m left wishing I ordered what I know I like!
